Shadow Happy

This summer I stumbled into a truly magical art instillation at Denver International Airport, called Shadow Happy.

It will be up all year on the bridge between the terminal and concourse A (which is apparently how those in the know get through security with shorter lines).  The artist Brianna Martray folded over 10,000 (!) paper cranes using paper from her book manuscript that will never be published.

The cranes are suspended on pieces of wire and are wrapping the support beams on either side of the bridge.

When the sun is low in the sky they will make fabulous shadows on the walls and beams.  I arrived at night and departed in the middle of the day, so my photos are mostly about silhouette.

Seeing this instillation did make me very happy – I could not stop smiling!  Thank you Brianna for this bit of whimsy and joy.

There is a sweet and funny video about installing Shadow Happy here.  All photos by me.
