There is a family that lives in the pyramid on top of the Smith Tower in Seattle. I read about this amazing apartment last week on stephmodo, and I can’t stop thinking about it. The NY Times article on the family explains that this woman Petra Franklin Lahaie, decided to live there and then made it happen (OK there might have been a few more steps but that is the gist).
I don’t think I can fully express how much I love this space. Since I was 16 I have wanted to live in a big, open, unconventional space. I knew a girl in high school whose family lived in a converted church. I was (and still am) so jealous. That was the first time I remember hearing of a family converting a nonresidential building into their home. There are always concessions that these families have to make, but it looks like it would be so worth it.
