Noemie Goudal takes photos inside an old barn, or in a basement or in a plain old room, but with a few props and a backdrop she creates a portal to another world.
From the artist’s statement: “the journey inside the image will invite the viewer to enter the space as well as entering the narrative of a ‘make-believe’”
Looking at these photos it is easy to let your imagination take over. It is amazing how a chair with short legs and some plastic sheeting makes me believe the water is rising.
I love the little boy peeking out between the strips of paper backdrop. It looks like the backdrops are simply images printed out on regular size copy paper and taped together. Part of the charm is in the simplicity.
This is a strong reminder that you don’t have to have a huge budget to create an evocative setting.
