In high school, my best friend and I used to write huge messages in the snow. Our favorite was “UFOs land here.” I think that is from a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon. We thought we were quite clever.
Sonja Hinrichsen makes large scale snow drawings. This one was at Rabbit Ears Pass in Colorado in January. It only takes a few friends, a few hours, and some direction. The hard part is coming up with the vision. As the wind blows and more snow falls it will become obscured.
Snow is a fickle medium, but in the sunlight is sparkles like a thousand diamonds.
I love how the footprints make the design look like piles of chain.
